Gluten-Free Pumpkin Spiced Cereal Treats: A delicious gluten-free alternative to Rice Krispie treats. With an adorable pumpkin shape, these treats are the perfect touch for Halloween, Thanksgiving or fall themed parties!
I’m so excited to share the first holiday themed post of the season with you on the first official day of fall! For the past two weeks, adorable holiday themed Rice Krispie treats have filled my Pinterest feed. Though rice is gluten-free, Rice Krispies sadly are not. Still, the adorable possibilities of marshmallow cereal treats was so tempting that I decided to create a gluten-free version.
I’ve been loving all of the varieties of gluten-free Cheerios lately. When I heard that there was a gluten-free pumpkin spice version available, I immediately started thinking of what I could make with them. It didn’t take me long to connect the dots. Pumpkin Spiced Cereal Treats! The hint of pumpkin spiced flavor works amazingly well with the marshmallowy goodness of these treats! Not a fan of pumpkin spice? Swap for plain Cheerios and you’re good to go!
Gluten-Free Pumpkin Spiced Cereal Treats
- 6 cups Pumpkin Spice Cheerios
- 3 TBS butter
- 1 package 10 oz. Jet Puffed Marshmallows
- orange food coloring can make your own w/red & yellow
- 10 to 20 Tootsie Rolls
- 2 TBS green frosting
- In large saucepan melt butter over low heat.
- Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted.
- Stir in food coloring. (see note)
- Remove from heat.
- Add Cheerios and stir until well coated.
- While still warm but not hot, mold with wet hands into pumpkin shaped balls. (see note)
- Allow to set for five minutes, then carefully press Tootsie Rolls into each pumpkin, reforming pumpkin shape as needed.
- Allow to cool completely in fridge, then add leaves using a tube of green frosting.
Likewise, the size of the pumpkins is up to you! We formed large pumpkins, about the height of, but wider than, a golf ball.
- Work with clean, wet hands when molding the pumpkins. The water prevents the treats from sticking to your hands.
- I went the easy route and bought a tube of pre-made green frosting for the leaves. You can certainly make your own to save money.
- For an extra touch of fun, use black frosting and carefully draw faces on the pumpkins to create mini jack-o-lanterns!

We just got them here in the US! If you can’t find them, the recipe would still be great with regular cheerios with a little bit of pumpkin pie spice mixed in.
